Resetting an iPad - Use when an iPad is locked with a PassCode Lock:

This procedure completely wipes the iPad but you have no other choice when it's locked down and nobody will confess
  1. Connect the USB cable to your Mac/PC but do not connect the other end to the iPad
  2. Launch iTunes
  3. Press and hold the Home button and the Power button until the unit shuts off
(ignore the shut down slider that comes up... just keep holding)
  4. Release
  5. Now press and continue to hold the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to your iPad
This will cause the device to turn on.
  6. Continue to hold the Home button until an alert message in iTunes appears that recovery mode has been detected.
  7. Click OK then click the Restore button in iTunes which restores it to factory defaults. When it's finished, restore the iPad from a backup.
Once restored you'll need to change the name as well as check the iCloud and Store logins to be sure they're working.
